Jazz-related improvisation study music for focus, deep work, and late-night listening — a controlled, startle-free experiment in non-idiomatic free improvisation with weak jazz markers: breath-shaped phrasing, combo turn-taking, and brief “micro-swing” episodes that dissolve before they become groove. The point is to keep the body of a jazz-trained ensemble while refusing the grammar of jazz improv. Most improvisation, even when “free,” tends to conform to stylistic norms; in jazz, it is often loosely structured by a model such as a tune or a repeating ground. This archive does the opposite: no head–solos–head, no chorus logic, no fixed harmonic motor, no predictable cadential resolutions. Instead, we work in Bailey’s terms: idiomatic improvisation expresses an idiom; non-idiomatic improvisation is most often found in “free” improvisation and is not tied to representing an idiomatic identity. The “jazz-related” part is deliberately modest: fleeting time-feel, horn articulation, and ensemble dialogue. The “free” part is structural: no fixed roles, no fixed harmonic/rhythmic/melodic structures, and no composition as backbone. If you’re expecting standards, changes, or a steady ride cymbal, this is the wrong room. If you want a calm, intelligent drift of texture and interaction, welcome. Production Controlled dynamics, softened transients, and stable loudness for uninterrupted study listening. No aggressive peaks, no jump-scare edits, no “energy music” blasts.
