In 1956 Operation Buffalo took place at the 52,000 sq. km Maralinga range in southern Australia. The goal was to test the effects of nuclear blasts on equipment ranging from 'men' (dummies in uniform above ground), to artillery, trucks, aircraft, and tanks. Four nuclear explosions took place including when airdrop from an aircraft and the results carefully observed (from a safe distance). This is a heavily edited version to focus only on the tanks (Centurions) involved in the blast clipping their portions from the overall original 40-ish minutes of footage. The clippings are not in chronoligical order. At least two Centurions can be seen both with and without the towed fuel trailer. The tanks, like other vehicles received special white-painted markings to track them more easily on the tests. Footage shows the tanks sustained minimal damage from a nuclear blast and that they were still operational afterwards. Uploaded for historic and education purposes only. No sound.
