This video introduces u to Sir. Jiro Shirasu and his wife, Lady Masako. They were one of J’s prominent super-couples who dedicated their lives to rebuilding post-WW II Japan. After the war which ended on 15 Aug 1945 in Asia, J was in complete ruin. Almost all cities... regardless of the size... and villages were carpet-bombed, and 3~4 million J-citizens had been killed. Over 25% of J’s male population vanished. So, with no money, no natural resources, and no infrastructure to speak of… J had to rebuild herself from scratch. Jiro and Masako were both from upper-class families and were educated in abroad: Jiro spoke fluent upper-class British English and French. Prime Minister Shigeru Yoshida, who was actually Masako's relative, needed a young man like Jiro, so he asked Jiro to join him in the rebuilding effort of J-gov’t. In the war, so many young, bright men were killed; it was indeed a tough period for J. However, only a matter of a few years, J rebuilt herself from the ashes. While Jiro helped PM Yoshida and established the Ministry of Commerce of J, his wife, Masako, traveled around the country to gather information on the country's art facts... or what remained. Masako went all over J and took photos and kept the record of the conditions, etc. She later on published books about her findings. In this fashion, she recorded what remained of J-art facts. From 1945 to 1952, J was occupied by General Douglas MacArthur and his army. PM Yoshida along with Jiro worked closely with MacArthur and his men. Americans didn't know anything about J or her culture. Often Jiro and MacArthur had disagreement in things but it is said that they indeed respected each other's guts. As a matter fact MacArthur later wrote in his book about Jiro…with respect about Jiro's tough character. After all it was Jiro who taught MacArthur how to behave in J, which MacArthur didn’t seem to mind it at all but rather appreciated it. Enjoy the video and please give a big thumbs up. My videos are sort of related to each other so enjoy others as well. Peace out… to all the beautiful souls out there. Cheers… ; D
