*THE HISTORY OF TRAPEZITSA HILL* Trapezitsa is the second most important fortress in the medieval capital of Tarnov (Veliko Tarnovo city today). "The Glorious City of Trapezitsa" with its churches and monasteries is located on the right bank of the Etar (Yantra) River, northwest of the hill "Tsarevets". The river winds in graceful meanders around the hill. In structure, Trapezitsa hill is similar to Tsarevets hill. However, it is independent. It is pyramidal in height, rising about 81m above the level of the Yantra River. Its upper part and its slopes on all sides are rocky and steep, with very few exceptions. The first fortified settlement built on the "Trapezitsa" hill dates back to the Late Chalcolithic (4200-4000 BC). Trapezitza had solid fortification walls following the uneven cliff edge. It is about 80 decares in size. *THE NAME* It is believed that name Trapezitsa originates from "trapeze", since the shape of the plateau is trapezoidal. *HOW TO GET THERE* The entrance to the "Trapezitsa" architectural-museum is easily accessible by car, just look for the "Trapezitsa" railway station as a starting point. Near the station is a large, free parking lot. Next to the parking is the lower station of the funicular (elevator) which takes you up to the museum park on top of the hill. There is also a footpath nearby, leading to the top of the hill. *VELIKO TARNOVO CITY* Trapezitsa is one of the many architectural landmarks in Veliko Tarnovo. It is not accidental that Veliko Tarnovo was declared a Balkan capital of cultural tourism, and a few times it was awarded the prize The Most Beautiful Town in Bulgaria. The town is magnificent with its beautiful houses, perching amphitheatrically along the river banks. The options for accommodation in the town are exceptionally diverse – private accommodation, hostels, guest houses. The town offers rich possibilities for entertainment and nightlife – discotheques, bars, restaurants, etc. References: http://www.velikoturnovo.info/bg/info... https://www.bulgariancastles.com/gr-v... https://bulgariatravel.org/veliko-tar... https://www.andrey-andreev.com/trapez...
