Special Farmers Market offers food support to Seattle residents without SNAP benefits

Around half of the more than 500,000 Washington households that rely on SNAP benefits have received assistance for November, according to the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). Still, thousands more are going without the monthly aid, and it's unclear when that might end. The Trump administration and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) are now demanding that states that issued full benefits 'undo' distributions, or they could potentially face future cuts. The directive was unclear whether that includes states that used their own funds to keep the program running or states that have relied on federal money entirely. FARMore WA is a local nonprofit offering financial assistance to Washington-based farmers. FARMore WA has partnered with the Ballard Farmers Market to offer support to people who have lost their SNAP benefits. Each Sunday, people can receive $40 to spend on food and produce at the market if they simply show their SNAP or EBT card.
