Does Nigel Farage have a woman problem? ‘Around me there’s always been a perception of a laddish culture,’ he tells Tim Shipman. In last year’s election, 58 per cent of Reform voters were men. But, Shipman argues, ‘that has begun to change’. According to More in Common, Reform has gained 14 percentage points among women, while Labour has lost 12. ‘Women are ‘more likely than men… to worry that the country is broken.’ Reform has also attracted high-profile women like Laila Cunningham, a prosecutor who some in the party believe would be a formidable London mayoral candidate. But the issue over which Labour is losing the most support to Reform is immigration, with women leading protests across the country against migrant hotels. Keir Starmer has been sketching out his party conference speech; senior figures believe that ‘he has just six months to turn things around’. Natasha Feroze discusses the cover piece with Tim Shipman and Kellie-Jay Keen, leader of the political party Party of Women. // CHAPTERS 00:00 – Introduction 01:30 – Why more women are turning to Reform UK 03:00 – Organic support vs political strategy 06:00 – The prison policy controversy 07:40 – Migrant protests and cultural concerns 10:00 – Reform’s female recruits and potential London mayor bid 13:00 – The limits of Reform’s appeal // SUBSCRIBE TO THE SPECTATOR Get 12 issues for £12, plus a free £20 John Lewis/Waitrose voucher https://www.spectator.co.uk/tvoffer // FREE PODCASTS FROM THE SPECTATOR Hear more from The Spectator's journalists on their podcasts, covering everything from the politics of the UK, US and China, to religion, literature, lifestyle and more. https://www.spectator.co.uk/podcasts/ // FOLLOW US / spectator / officialspectator / the-spectator / spectator1828 / thespectatormagazine
