Design is from 1959 found date in the manual, only one tube inside this quite simple capacitor open-short tester, the 1629 magic eye, they also use the same tube as a 19MHz oscillator, i found that fasinating worth a video to show this unusual idea. The last funny idea is a magic eye actually works on AC voltage, it just means it only make light when the wave is positive, so no need for rectifier or large caps on the anode. I really like Heathkit for making super good DIY manuals educating hobby people, good entry into the world of electronics.
