Toxic Towns? Here's the BBC Look East report on toxic waste from Corby Steel Works that came to Kettering. North Northants Green Party are calling for independent water testing in Kettering and a full public inquiry into historic toxic waste movements between Corby and Kettering, and potentially elsewhere. Following a recent ITV report revealing that potentially hundreds of tonnes of toxic waste were moved from Corby to Kettering in the 1980s and 1990s, the BBC interviewed Cllr Ben Williams on the issue. Significant questions remain about what was moved, where it was buried, who authorised it, and what the long-term consequences may be. Independent testing in Corby identified harmful metal pollutants in local waterways, possibly linked to historic industrial activity. We now need to establish whether similar contamination exists in Kettering. Residents deserve clarity about any potential environmental or public health implications, particularly in areas prone to flooding along the River Ise and Slade Brook.
