Dr. Chris Discolo, Pediatric Otolaryngology - MUSC Children's Health

Christopher Discolo, M.D., MSCR, joined the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and MUSC Children’s Hospital in July 2008. Prior to joining MUSC, Dr. Discolo worked in the section of pediatric otolaryngology within the Head and Neck Institute of the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Discolo completed a fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at the University of Minnesota in 2006. While in Minnesota, Dr. Discolo trained under James Sidman, M.D., and participated in one of the only pediatric fellowships providing extensive training in cleft lip and palate surgery. Dr. Discolo grew up on Long Island, New York, and graduated summa cum laude from Concordia College where he also played on the baseball team. In 1999, he graduated from medical school at the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn. He then traveled to Ohio to complete a residency in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. After completing a fellowship in Minnesota, he returned to the Cleveland Clinic for two years prior to joining MUSC. Dr. Discolo received board certification from the American Board of Otolaryngology in 2006 and is a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Discolo’s practice focuses entirely on the care of children. Although he cares for children with all types of ear, nose and throat problems, he has particular expertise in cleft lip and palate repair and care of children with these and other craniofacial anomalies. Other examples of his specialty areas include distraction osteogenesis (a surgical technique where the facial skeleton is manipulated to help treat certain conditions), management of airway problems, head and neck masses, speech and swallowing disorders, sinus disease, and sleep apnea. Dr. Discolo has published numerous papers and book chapters on diseases of the head and neck and has given presentations on the local, regional and national level. He is active within the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. He has also received a Master's Degree in Clinical Research from the MUSC Department of Biometry and Epidemiology, obtaining his degree in 2010.
