To begin the very strange looking birds are called Shags. They are very black or brown and do not have oil on their wings; Apparently as a consequence they have to stand around a lot with their wings spread because their feathers are not water proof. So they have to open their wings to the air and then can only fly when their wings are dried out. However they dive and swim under the water in order to catch fish.After diving their wings are saturated and hence they have to be very patient in order to dry out their wings. They are very strange looking. Also where they gather on the coastal cliffs I've noticed the white coating on some of the the clifftops is basically the results of the shags having to do their toilet responsibilities. I like watching them and they are certainly good at fishing. Further on I walked back to St.Ives on the coastal path. The sunset was beautiful and their was a full moon to end the evening. In a way when the shags wings are spread it looks a bit little scary.!!
