For a woman who has had a single or double mastectomy, one or two, the breast will be insensate, and she will have to undergo several procedures, says Silverstein. The breast may not function as a real breast as well. However, oncoplastic breast conservation allows the breast to regain full sensation and function normally. The operation is much easier, outpatient is possible, there are no drains, and there is a very low infection rate, adds Silverstein.
