How Cardamom is Grown in Southern Central Bhutan 🇧🇹

🌿 Cardamom Planting Season Today, I’m out in the field with my brothers and a few of our relatives, getting ready for this season’s cardamom planting. Before we dive in, I’ll be sharing a bit about how cardamom farming works in our village, here in Chhudzom Gewog — one of the key cardamom-growing regions in Bhutan. Cardamom has been cultivated in this area for nearly a century, though the varieties have changed over time. These days, most of us grow a type called Barlang — that’s what we call it in Lhotsam. The planting season typically runs from June to early August, but the exact timing depends on local weather and field conditions. We prefer planting on rainy days — the moisture really boosts the survival rate of the saplings and helps them grow faster. Dry weather planting is possible, but not ideal, especially in areas exposed to direct sun. 🌧️🌱 Come along as we head into the field and show you how it’s done — right here in southern Bhutan
