Today I’m putting my remote, solar-powered SDR lookout station to the test. I’ve set up a LattePanda running DragonOS, paired with a Nooelec XTR SDR that lets me scan above 1900 MHz—right where T-Mobile and Starlink’s Direct-to-Cell satellites operate. In this video, I’ll walk through my portable setup, show the high-gain antenna aimed skyward, and dig into using a fork of LTE Cell Scanner to search for and track satellite signals in real time. I’ll also talk a bit about what makes Starlink’s Direct-to-Cell service interesting—like its use of 5 MHz FDD channels and low Earth orbit satellites, which move quickly across the sky and present a fun challenge to track.
