How I ROTTED my FAVORITE Plant! | Alocasia Frydek Plant Care | Corm Propagation | Repotting

I went from thinking my one Frydek was on its deathbed to now I have 9 and can’t care for them all ☠️ Since I finished filming this video last week, I’m happy to report that every single corm from the sextuplet bunch has sprouted and 4 of the 6 are fully variegated, while the other two are still too young to tell. Not bad! This Variegated Alocasia Frydek was truly “the one”. It completely started my interest in variegated Alocasias, which is why it was so heartbreaking that I didn’t realize she was rotting in LECA. While I still do have other Alocasias happily living in LECA right now, my conclusion from this learning experience is that Alocasias have very fine root systems that are sensitive, and so when my Frydek got root bound, it subsequently started rotting. Moving forward, my plan is to transition my Alocasias away from LECA and back into soil. While LECA is considered the “no-brainer” medium because you can just leave a reservoir of water and never worry about over or under watering, it’s not without its setbacks. You need to make sure your PH levels are appropriate for plants growing in LECA and you have to always remember to provide nutrients because LECA doesn’t have any (unlike soil). I’m not swearing off LECA completely - just not for my Alocasias. I am so excited to see the progress of these corms though.
