Ogaki Castle: A historic site that played a valuable role during the Battle of Sekigahara • 大垣城

Ogaki Castle is said to have been built in 1535 by Miyagawa Kichizaemon Nobunaga, a member of the Toki clan who was the shugo of Mino Province. During the Battle of Sekigahara, it became the headquarters of Ishida Mitsunari of the Western Army. After that, the Toda clan became the lord of the castle with 100,000 koku, and the period of peace continued until the Meiji period. It was designated as a national treasure in 1936, but was destroyed in a war in July 1945.
