Part 2!! We hiked up to the Leconte Lodge for a one-night stay in a rustic cabin shared with 5 other individuals. There are single dwelling cabins also. You must make a reservation month in advance, and you can only get the lodge on foot. We went up Alum Cave Trail, but you can come up several different trails and they are all unique and are beautiful trails. Alum Cave Trail is the shortest and has beautiful views along the way but is pretty steep with a lot of steps. It is about 5 miles or so from the trailhead. "The Lodge offers an atmosphere of quiet simplicity where people find relaxation and renewed energy in the cool, majestic solitude at the top of the Smokies. Guests are housed in hand built roughhewn log cabins with propane heat, kerosene lanterns, clean linens and warm Hudson Bay wool blankets. Hearty meals are served family style in the dining room." Of course, at the time we went the dining room was closed due to Covid 19 and so we ate in our cabin or on picnic tables. Visit their website for up-to-date information and reservations http://www.lecontelodge.com/ You must go see the sunset and sunrise. It is just a short hike to these overlooks, and you can see amazing views of the mountains. We highly recommend this fun hike and overnight stay!! Music: Sound stripe
