A luxury watch dealer accidentally had a $23,000 Rolex that he purchased shipped to his old business address. The old address is currently occupied by a smoke shop. Even though the package was not addressed to anyone in that store, one of the employees signed for the Fedex overnight shipment. That employee then opened up the package to find the Rolex watch. After consulting with a friend they made the decision to sell the watch that did not belong to them to a local pawn shop for $10,000 in cash. When the owner of the watch (watch dealer) confronted the smoke shop the guy admitted to selling the watch and gave the owner about half ($5000+) of the money they received. They had already spent the rest of the funds. The watch dealer then went to the Pawn shop in an attempt to get his property back, he had known the pawn shop owner for over 10 years. That guy was 100% uncooperative and refused an offer that would have returned his $10,000 in exchange for returning the watch. The police were called and eventually had to put a hold on the watch while this plays out in court. The smoke shop employee was charged with grand theft over $20,000 and the case is still pending. (thoughts from the CrimePiece- NO legitimate watch owner is taking that particular watch into a pawn shop and accepting $9-10k. It just is not happening, they could take it to any watch store and get double that on the spot. That should have been a big red flag to Pawn store guy that it was stolen. Theres a big risk of buying stolen property for Pawn stores, cops can literally just take the item from them in the event it's proven to be stolen. They get $0 back in that case. ) *suspects in these case should always be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
