Quaker oats (sugar puff factory) Southall Originally built in 1936/1939 by Quaker Oats, a company founded in Ohio in 1877. Many cereals were produced here, including Sugar Puffs (now called Honey Monster Puffs). Part of the operation was sold to Spiller's in 1994 and the remainder to Big Bear Group in 2006. The last thing to produced on this site was popular cereals like Sugar Puffs, Honey WoW's, and Honey monster waffles. Pet food was also produced on site. Eventually, the company moved out in about 2006. Cereal products were still made on site by Honey Monster Foods who produced Honey Monster Puffs until March 2015, when the site ceased production for good. Following its closure and eventual sale in April 2017, the new owners of the former industrial site, Galliard Homes, have announced plans to transform it into a residential-led development, with 45,000sq ft. of the 880,000sq ft. earmarked for commercial use. However, before any demolition and building work can begin, the existing gas and infrastructure has to be disconnected and dismantled and that is currently on going. RIP Quaker Oats 1936 to 2021
