The trial of Tremaine Jones is underway—and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Jones is accused of ambushing Milwaukee police officers on June 26, 2025, killing Officer Kendall Corder and seriously injuring his partner, Christopher McCray, as they responded to a call near 25th and Garfield on the city’s northwest side. 🚨 What began as a routine call quickly escalated. Officers were initially dispatched for a person with a weapon, but while en route, the call was upgraded to “shots fired,” signaling a rapidly evolving situation. 🔥 According to prosecutors, tensions were already high before police arrived. There were disputes between groups of women centered around Jones and allegations of infidelity, with the conflict unfolding outside an apartment building. Investigators say Jones fired shots into the air before officers arrived, likely triggering the upgraded call. 🚨 When officers got to the scene, everything happened fast. Corder and McCray exited their squad and moved into an alley, where McCray reported seeing a flash from bushes and hearing what initially sounded like a firework—followed by multiple gunshots. Authorities say the officers were hit almost immediately and were unable to return fire, and officials have described the shooting as an ambush. 💥 Corder was struck and fell to the ground, while McCray—shot in the foot, leg, and back—ran to him, retrieved his firearm, and attempted to protect him despite his injuries. Backup officers and a tactical team arrived shortly after. 🚑 Both officers were transported to a local trauma center. McCray survived and was released days later, but Corder suffered catastrophic injuries, including a gunshot wound that severed his spine, and died on June 29, 2025. 🧩 This case involves more than just the alleged shooter. Jermela Kittler, identified as Jones’ girlfriend, is charged with harboring a felon after prosecutors say she helped hide him following the shooting, and she has a plea hearing scheduled for April 10, 2026. Bryshawn Tyler is charged as a felon in possession of a firearm, with prosecutors alleging he brought a gun to the initial incident officers were responding to. ⚖️ If convicted, Jones faces a mandatory life sentence for first-degree intentional homicide, along with additional decades of potential prison time from the remaining charges, including attempted homicide, reckless endangerment, and firearm-related offenses. ⚖️ JUDGE Michelle A.
