In this video, I’ll show you how to make a homemade 100% Coconut Oil Soap with 25% super fat via a cold process method to preserve the oil’s benefits. Here is a simple soap recipe for beginners. Coconut oil soap is an excellent starter for soapmaking, with a short curating period and significant effects! It’s a hard soap with excellent cleansing power and foaming. I used 25% super fat to avoid the soap being too dry on the skin. This video is part of a series focusing on simple soap making; more will be added over the next month! Please feel free to ask questions and share your feedback and what you think of this recipe. Recipe For a small batch of ≈ 720g (you’ll get ≈ 6x120g per soap bar) INGREDIENTS: 500g of Coconut Oil 160,34g of distilled water (30% lye concentration) 74,72g of NaOH (68,72g if not using Citric Acid) (optional) 10g of Citric Acid HOW TO (instructions): Make sure to wear gloves and glasses protection before starting! Weigh the NaOH in a glass container ideally. (Optional) Weigh the Citric Acid. Measure the distilled water; to proceed faster, freeze the water, as we’ll have an exothermic reaction when adding NaOH. Frozen distilled water will cool the lye solution temperature down. (Optional) Add the Citric Acid to the distilled water and stir until it dissolves. 1g of Citric Acid neutralizes 0,6g of lye. Add the NaOH to the water and stir until you’re sure it’s completely dissolved. Caution: always put the NaOH into the water, not the other way around! While letting the lye solution temperature cool, weigh the coconut oil. Once the lye solution and coconut oil temperature have cooled, add the lye solution inside the coconut oil. Gently mix until the trace appears. Poor into a mold. You can use a regular mold or individual silicons baking mold. Using separate molds will let the soap rest longer without being unmolded and cut. Coconut soap tends to solidify quickly, which makes it hard to cut if you let it rest for over 10 hours in a regular mold. Let it cool down in the freezer for 3 hours, then for 7 hours at ambient temperature. Cut the soap into bars and prune it on the sides. Let it cure for 4 to 6 weeks before using it.
