“When Hiding Feels Safer” There are seasons when hiding feels easier than being honest. We build walls to protect ourselves—silence, distance, humor, busyness, or emotional armor. These defenses feel like strength, but they slowly disconnect us from God, from others, and from our own hearts. The opposite of vulnerability isn’t strength. It’s self‑protection. It’s guardedness. It’s emotional armor. It’s numbness. It’s defensiveness. It’s the quiet belief that if people really knew us, they might walk away. But God never meets us in the version of ourselves we pretend to be. He meets us in the truth. Scripture shows us that God draws near to the brokenhearted, not the polished. Jesus invited people to bring their wounds, not their masks. Vulnerability isn’t weakness—it’s worship. It’s the courage to say, “Lord, here I am. All of me. Even the parts I’ve tried to hide.” When we stop hiding, healing begins. When we stop pretending, connection grows. When we stop protecting ourselves, God becomes our protection. Prayer: “Lord, tear down the walls I’ve built. Meet me in the places I’ve concealed. Teach me to trust You with the parts of me I’ve been afraid to reveal. Where vulnerability begins, let freedom follow.” INTRO: Welcome, family. Today we’re talking about something we all struggle with—vulnerability. Sometimes hiding feels safer. Sometimes we build walls because we’re afraid of being seen. But God doesn’t meet us in our masks; He meets us in our truth. OPENING PRAYER: Lord, open our hearts today. Help us lower our defenses and trust You with the parts of us we’ve been hiding. Meet us in honesty, and bring healing where we’ve been afraid to feel. SCRIPTURE (NLT): Psalm 34:18 — “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” REFLECTION: The opposite of vulnerability isn’t strength—it’s hiding. It’s the walls we build, the silence we use, the distance we create. But God invites us into a different kind of strength: the courage to be seen, the courage to be honest, the courage to let Him heal what we’ve been protecting. CLOSING PRAYER: Lord, tear down the walls we’ve built. Heal the places we’ve hidden. Teach us to trust You with our truth. Make us whole again. Amen.
