All the paints I use are acrylic paints mixed with additives to help them flow more easily. All my colors are stored and mixed in squeeze bottles for ease of use. I have created a dirty pour of layered colors all in one cup. I flip the cup upside down into the puddle of paint on the canvas. I spread the paint by tilting the canvas. The cup is surrounded by a vast quantity of black paint (potentially the background color but mostly a vehicle for the submerged color container). I twist the cup to release the seal. I move the cup forward and backward and the seal finally releases the contents. The paint in the cup seeps out nicely under the puddle of paint I have added around the cup. As the canvas is tilted patterns are being created and cells are popping. I add more black paint to fill in the areas beside the pattern and use my OXO silicone spatula to spread the paint to fill in those areas . I tilt the canvas mightily, allowing the paint to flow and spread the patterns improving the composition. I use a small silicone spatula to make a few adjustments dragging or pulling colorful paint into the black and then also the bamboo skewer. I finish by warming the paint (with a propane torch) to release any caught air bubbles. Warming the paint may also encourage patterns in the paint to emerge. I use a bamboo skewer to drag slide or manipulate paint. I am in love with this too!! I use my breath by blowing through medical/fish tank tubing (a bendy straw works every bit as well, if not better) to move paint by blowing through it, merging areas of paint colors and exposing new colors. I use my squeeze bottles of premixed acrylic paints with additives that help the paint to flow (see recipe below) to add a few small accent colors. A few last skewer tweaks and I am very, very happy! This is one of my favorite series to date. My "pouring" mixture or "recipe" is simple- and starts with 2 parts(estimated) GAC 800 from"Golden" added into any acrylic paint color 8 parts, (amounts are always estimated) This starts the mixing process. Mix the paint and GAC thoroughly. Next, I add my mixed Floetrol and (half) Deco Art pouring medium. (Shake it first every time! ) The truth is, lately, that's my go-to. I add the same (or more) ounces as the first two ingredients and mix everything thoroughly. The consistency is usually "medium" body weight, but other weights are usable with minor adjustments. When mixing, if you use squeeze bottles as I do, add a small marble into the bottle to help mix the paint. Shake your paints every time before you use them. All my acrylic paints are mixed in advance and contained and stored in squeeze bottles. If you are not using squeeze bottles, I suggest using a container that has a lid. I have often used the 4oz size plastic deli containers, and the paint keeps for a long time in them, but you still will have to stir before using the mix again because the Floetrol and other flow agents will rise to the top between uses. None of my acrylic paint has any added silicon. To create the pearlescent effects seen in most of my artworks, I use "Golden's" Iridescent pearl "Fine" added to colors. By "eye" until I am pleased with what I see. Every day I learn new things. I will never stop experimenting, and I am happy to share what I discover with you.
