South Carolina came into the SEC Tournament looking like a team on a mission. The No. 3 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball opened the quarterfinals with a dominant 87–64 win over the No. 17 Kentucky Wildcats women's basketball, showing exactly why they are once again the team to beat in the conference. Freshman star Joyce Edwards led the way with 21 points, while Madina Okot added a 12-point, 13-rebound double-double to power the Gamecocks inside. Tessa Johnson and Ta'Niya Latson also reached double figures as South Carolina shot 53% from the field, forced 19 turnovers, and dominated the paint. Coached by Dawn Staley, South Carolina raced out to a big halftime lead and never looked back, allowing their starters to rest late in the game as they continue their pursuit of another SEC Tournament championship. Kentucky, led by Amelia Hassett and Clara Strack, was playing its third game in three days after earlier wins over Arkansas and Georgia but struggled to keep up with South Carolina’s physical defense and depth.
