Filmed one morning on the balcony of an apartment house in the Land of the Midnight Sun, this unedited video introduces you to the flowing Finnish health exercise Asahi, which benefits the body and the mind at the same time. The form is simple and easy to remember: 12 movements in groups of three separated by an intermediate breathing movement. Anyone can do Asahi without risk of injury. It can be modified to a sitting position or even in a horizontal position for someone who is bed-ridden. You can do the motions discreetly in your seat on an airplane or bus to prevent the formation of blood clots. Once you learn the series, you have it with you everywhere you go with no need of extra equipment or special clothing. You can do the whole series once a day, or break it up into 2-3 minute sections to give yourself breaks at the computer or at the kitchen sink or wherever you happen to be. Asahi looks like Eastern health exercise, but is firmly routed in Western medicine and has no religious or political teachings. It may look easy, but the slowness of the movements makes it extremely effective in improving muscle strength, coordination, balance, reducing stress levels and increasing body awareness. When done in groups, Asahi has a very unifying effect before the participants exchange a single word. It’s fun and healthy, so why not JUST DO IT! by following along with the video!
