First ever EU-UK Summit: opening a new chapter in our unique relationship

On 19 May Commission President Ursula von der Leyen attended the EU-UK Summit in London, United Kingdom, together with: António Costa, President of the European Council, and Keir Starmer, British Prime Minister. The main focus was: A renewed agenda for European Union – United Kingdom cooperation Common Understanding. She stated: 'in London for the first-ever EU–UK Summit, we have got a real chance to turn the page and write a new chapter in our relationship. Working together to deliver on the security of our shared continent and the prosperity of people on both sides of the Channel. We're also stepping up our cooperation on fighting illegal migration.Crime doesn’t stop at borders, and neither should our response.We are joining forces to crack down on smugglers and traffickers.Our goal is clear: protect our borders and prevent further tragedies. This is a new chapter in our partnership. Starting with our Security & Defence Partnership.It’s first step towards the UK’s participation in our defence industrial readiness SAFE.'
