What the federal takeover of DC's Union Station means for commuters, businesses

The Department of Transportation already owns Union Station and has been the owner since the 1980s. However, the DOT is retaking control that was ceded to both Amtrak and the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation, which is pushing for a major redevelopment project at the nearly 118-year-old station. Steven Bradbury, Deputy U.S. Secretary of Transportation, said the station needs a new roof, new systems, restrooms, as well as improvements to security, lighting and elevators.
