Today’s FluteTip is on how you can adjust intonation by raising and lowering your air stream rather than rolling in or rolling out. http://DoctorFlute.com   / doctorflute     / doctorflute     / doctorflute   FluteTips 8 Intonation Air Stream Do not adjust intonation by rolling in or rolling out. You want to do it because you are raising your air stream from your mouth, not from your head manually. I’ve certainly seen students do that in bands that I’ve directed, and in flute choir. While it does solve the problem at the moment, it also compromises your tone. So, when I want to raise my air stream, I just want to get a little more “ooh.” So, if I’m playing a low note, all I did was raise my airstream. And you can hear the difference in the pitch as I went higher or lower. So, what you need to do is practice just raising and lowering your air stream and see how you can adjust pitch. Do it with a tuner right in front of you. And see where is it that your air stream needs to be, to be perfectly in tune. And then, you’ll get to know where that is on every note.
