I bought these light sensors from British Columbia government auction site about a year earlier. Whole pallet of used scientific equipment (-: The Net Solar Radiation sensors have two thermopiles with one mounted on each the top and bottom. The idea is you can measure the incoming sunlight and also measure the reflected sunlight from the ground. If you seal the bottom sensor from light (Swissteco S-1 sensor Swissteco from Switzerland) then the output is just the incoming sunlight. This would be acting like a Pyranometer. If you use both sensors like how the CN1-R Net Pyrradiometer from Middleton Corp (Australia) is setup then the reflected light is subtracted from the incoming light. The difference is what is absorbed by the surface below the sensor. I just plan on eventually making a weather station and adding this as a parameter.
