We thought taking a bus from Dubrovnik to Mostar would be a simple scenic route, but the journey quickly turned into a travel nightmare. What started as a standard trip across the Balkans became stressful when I was singled out by border police, pulled off the bus, and taken into a small room for questioning while everyone else waited. The challenges didn’t stop at the border. Upon arriving in Mostar, we were hit with a harsh reality check: this is a cash-only city. With no local currency, no internet to check exchange rates, and expensive data roaming fees, we found ourselves wandering the streets searching for a connection just to buy dinner. In this video, we share the full story of our chaotic travel day, from the intense border search to the expensive lessons we learnt about accessing money in Bosnia.
