WDP4 (EMD GT46PAC ) is a passenger hauling Diesel-Electric locomotive with AC electric transmission having a power output of 4000 HP designed by General Motors Electro-Motive Division and built by both GM-EMD and under license by Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) Varanasi, India exclusively for Indian Railways. The first set of 10 locos starting from road number 20000–20009 were manufactured by the Electro Motive Division (EMD) of (General Motors) while road numbers 20011 upwards have been manufactured by Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) of Varanasi in collaboration with EMD and GM (General motors). Siemens too are part of this group providing a large component of the electronics on board this loco. WDP4's are Single Cab Locomotives and can be operated bi-directional up to a speed of 180 KPH. WDP4 was tested at a Max speed of 160 KPH on the Konkan Railways way back in 2006 and a decade later WDP4's hauled the test rake of the Spanish Talgo Train at a max speed of 180 KPH. The video is a compilation of Single cab WDP4 EMD's working in (Long Hood Forward) LHF also known as Reverse Mode , hauling various Passenger / Express Trains. Loco Pilots find it extremely difficult in operating the locomotive in this mode due to its length being much more longer than that of ALCos and the cab placed at the extreme end its pretty challenging to watch out for signals and cautions on sharp turns and curves. Its even more challenging during the fog and monsoons.Due to lack of turn tables Loco Pilots are left with no choice but to ride the Loco in the reverse mode. These EMD's have two type of horns fitted one for the Short Hood and the other for the Long Hood , the horns specially for the long hood sound like a loud blowing trumpet which can be heard and felt miles apart. All the trains in this video are captured on the pure Diesel Bangalore - Arsikere - Hubli Line, one of the very first lines where these EMD's started their journey.
