70 Year Old Air Pistol Restoration

Rescued, renewed, and re-blued. Daisy 'Targeteer' BB Pistol restoration. These BB pistols were made by Daisy from 1937 until 1952. So this one is at least 69 years old. These were intended for younger kids, and to be used indoors. They require tiny little 118 shot ammo and are really low power. The ads state "Accurate up to 12 feet!". Still a very fun little gun to use inside. Bluing Steel: This little gun is made from stamped steel. The steel was originally blued. Bluing is a chemical treatment that changes the surface of steel to make it harder and more resistant to rust. I re-blued this gun using a very basic recipe of caustic soda, potassium nitrate, and water. Cold Bluing: You can see that I use metal blackener, or cold bluing. This is purely cosmetic and doesn't inhibit corrosion or change the hardness of the steel. Temper coloring: I also temper color some screws in this video. This uses heat to change the color of the steel. Also, purely cosmetic. It just has a bit of a different look.
