Lee Krasner (American, born October 27, 1908 in Brooklyn – died June 19, 1984 in New York City) was an abstract expressionist painter, a source of inspiration for a large number of women artists of the 20th century. Krasner studied at the Arts Students League, the Cooper Union and the National Academy of Design in New York. She began a full-time career as an artist during the Great Depression, when she began working as a painter for the WPA's Federal Art Project in the 1930s.
