Four layer waterproofing treatment was used to protect the metallic shed roofs of a hospital building near Delhi/NCR from heavy water leakage and excessive heat in summers. The Makphalt waterproofing and heat insulation solution protects the shed by providing flexible waterproofing using polyurethane waterproofing coating and provides thermal insulation using acrylic based fiber reinforced heat reflective coating. Surface preparation: MAK PLAST cold applied bitumen sealant was used for sealing joints, cracks and holes in the shed. (Manufactured by Makphalt) Surface of shed was cleaned by spraying water and proper dust removal. Layer 1 (MAK PU PRIMER): Primer coat for preparing surface to make compatible with polyurethane coating was done using MAK PU PRIMER. (Manufactured by Makphalt) Layer 2 & 3 (MAK ELASTOTHANE EMW and MAK POLYSCRIM CLOTH): UV resistant white polyurethane based waterproofing flexible elastomeric coating was applied in two layer to form an approximately 1mm thick waterproof layer having long durability. MAK POLYSCRIM CLOTH was used as reinforcement between the two layers on the joints between the roofing sheets and over cracks. This helps in cracks bridging. (Manufactured by Makphalt) Layer 4 (MAK ENVIROCOOL): Heat reflective nano technology based acrylic modified insulation coating was done as the top layer for protecting the heat coming from sunlight. This reduces the surface temperature of the metallic shed by 8 to 15 degrees celsius depending upon outside temperature and reduces inside temperature by 4 to 8 degrees celsius. (Manufactured by Makphalt) Sealing joints between tin shed and vertical brick walls: MAK FLASH SEAL joint sealing bituminous UV resistant tapes are used to seal all such joints as well as joints formed near duct openings or vents.
