An introduction to the world of wool 🐑 Did you know that a single sheep, on average, provides around 4.5 kg / almost 10 lbs. of wool per year, the equivalent of 10+ m / 32 feet of fabric? That is enough wool to make six sweaters, three suit and trouser combinations, or the fabric to cover one large sofa! Wool is an intricate natural fibre procured from the fleece of sheep. Wool sheep are classified as "Ovis aries aries" and breeds like Merino, Rambouillet, Blue Faced Leicester, and Corriedale are among the best-known wool sheep. Worldwide, there are estimated to be more than 1,000 different breeds of sheep. Sheep grow wool in a range of colours, textures and lengths. Wool can therefore vary considerably, depending on the breed of sheep, country of origin, and even the weather can play a role. Learn more in this video.
