In every strand of mi goreng, there’s a little bit of salty, sweet comfort. Tonight, we made mi goreng which translates to fried noodles in Indonesian and Malay. It's chewy noodles stir-fried until glossy, savory, and just a little bit sweet. The fried noodles have a deep, savory umami flavor from the garlic and soy sauce, and sweetness from the secret sauce. The secret sauce is the kecap manis or sweet soy sauce giving it that signature sweet flavor and shiny, caramelized look. If you add chili or sambal, there’s this gentle heat that builds as you eat, but not overpowering. We added the chili in after cooking. Kiddos can’t take the spice yet. This dish is a plate of fried noodles that hits salty, sweet, savory, and a tiny bit smoky all at once. The ingredients are simple, but the flavor feels way bigger than the effort. It’s fast, affordable, and packed with flavor. Try this for dinner tonight.
