ISRO creates another milestone, launches World's lightest satellite Kalamsat | channeliam.com

The world's lightest satellite, made by Indian students, was successfully placed in orbit by a rocket launched by the ISRO. ISRO’s PSLV C-44 mission was special as the launch vehicle carried Microsat-R and Kalamsat-V2. The satellite designed and built by students from Space Kidz India in Chennai. The satellite is named after the former president APJ Abdul Kalam. The lightest satellite weighs only 1.26 Kg and took 6 years to build it. Kalamsat is the first satellite to use rocket’s fourth stage as an orbital platform. . Kalamsat-V2 is meant to study the communication system of Nano-satellite, mainly useful in Disaster Management field. Microsat-R satellite was launched for Defence Research and Development Organisation purposes.
