Cannabis Pollination Process to Produce Seeds A grain of pollen must come from a male flowers stamen and travel to the female flowers pistil. From here it will travel down the pollen tube to reach the ovule. Once complete the pistil will turn a brown color and a seed will begin to form. As the seed matures the plant will degrade and ultimately die to complete the life cycle. This process is sexual reproduction with a combination of both plants characteristics and a 50/50 chance of producing male or female plants. Unpollinated female cannabis flowers (referred to as sinsemilla) will be the primary location of cannabinoids and resins and will peak their production 6-10 weeks after changing the photoperiod to 12/12.
