Cueto, as he is familiarly called around the island, had a previous world record for a cigar measuring 43.38 metres (142 feet) long. Cueto began rolling his latest stogie on Monday and expects to be done in a few days in time for Havana's International Tourism Fair which will be held on the grounds of the city's Morro Cabana fortress. The cigar is being rolled inside the fortress along a wooden table which extends across several of the vast rooms that interconnect within the fortress. Armed with over 200 pounds (90 kilograms) of top-quality tobacco he is rolling a 70-metre (229 feet) cigar Cueto hopes will land them a fifth world record from Guinness. Cueto has several assistants in each room who move the cigar in unison with his commands as he continuously rolls and grows the cigar by dozens of meters per day. The art of rolling requires several stages of rolling the same cigar over and over. First goes the filler, then a cover, and finally the top leaf which gives the cigar its look. Therefore, Cueto must roll his 70-meter-plus (229 feet) masterpiece at least three times before it is actually finished. Cueto is 67-years-old and has been rolling cigars since he became a teenager over 50 years ago. He says his main motivation for rolling the record-breaking stogies is nationalism. "This is the country where we grow the best tobacco in the world and it should be here in Cuba where the world's longest tobacco should be. That is what we are trying to do here", said Cueto. He was awarded Guinness World Record certificates in 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2008. Cigars are one of Cuba's traditional exports, bringing in some 400 (m) million US Dollars per year.
