How to Create a Custom Map in AllTrails

UPDATE 10/6/2025: AllTrails has recently introduced their new "Custom Routes" experience. This new map building tool is only available with a Peak subscription at nearly $90 annually. Yikes! However, the legacy map builder seen in this tutorial is still available for free without Peak. To access it, go to the Saved menu and select Custom routes & maps. At the bottom of the left panel, click on "Go to legacy map builder". You should be able to use this video to guide you through building your custom map. AllTrails is no longer supporting this legacy tool and it's not clear how long they will continue to make it available. When we planned out our AT New Jersey section hikes, we were disappointed to find AllTrails did not have AT sectional maps available. What to do?? Well, we just went and created our own maps.
