Afzaal Rehan is a Lahore-based columnist, author and analyst. He is the president of the Liberal Human Forum. He is a lawyer by training. He has been writing columns for Jang, arguably the most important newspaper in Pakistan, since 2013. Previously, he worked for Zindagi, a weekly publication edited by Altaf Hasan Qureshi, one of the most senior journalists in Pakistan. Mr. Rehan has also served as deputy editor of Qaumi Digest, which was edited by Mujibur Rahman Shami, a well-known journalist and TV commentator. Mr. Rehan has done nearly two thousand critical and in-depth interviews, including that of General Niazi. His first tough question made General Niazi cry. Mr. Rehan earned his bachelor's degree at the famed Government College, Lahore. Subsequently, he earned master's degrees in political science and Islamic studies from Bahawalpur University and Punjab University, Lahore, respectively. He is a voracious reader and a prolific writer. In addition to newspaper articles, he has written four books. His areas of interest include extremism, political Islam, and India-Pakistan relations. He is a big critic of the way history has been sanitized in Pakistan. He is a staunch advocate of friendly relations with India. He believes that hostility toward India has ruined Pakistan's economy.
