The UAG Monarch Pro looks like it could survive a war. Kevlar, honeycomb patterns, massive corners, the whole deal. But after running it through my drop tests, I’m not convinced it protects your iPhone as well as it protects its reputation. URBAN ARMOR GEAR UAG Designed for iPhone 17 Pro Max Case Monarch Pro - Compatible with MagSafe Military Grade Protective Cover Review -after 10 years, the Monarch is still one of the craziest cases I've seen -there's a lot going on -and I'm not a flash person per se, but the look works -you've got the magsafe area, you've got the kevlar bit surrounding it -long edges are TPU with a honeycomb print -short edges have a nice matte finish to it -around the camera lump, it's really heft TPU -back is PC and hard so your iPhone is being coddled at all -definatley get a good grip on your iPhone in the case -honeycomb pattern works -even the matte finish that UAG uses is decent on the case -big boy case -going to add 60G to the weight of your iphone -going to increase the bulk of your iPhone by almost 2x -during corner drops, my iPhone logged 10.3G's which is basically average -the rotation rate was 17% higher -the case rang much longer after the drop, 25% longer -and overall, the total force was 10% higher -so like all the other tough cases we've seen, it's does a great job of protecting itself but not the iPhone -I was expecting better results because the back has so many pieces that I thought it would do a good job of dispersing the drop energy -for face drops, this case passed -which was surprising given how loose the top edge is -initial impact was 14% below average -BUT because of the big TPU edges, it settled 40% slower -overall force though was 19% better -that's pretty good -for the camera lump -UAG uses a TPU band around the lump -BUT the band is connected directly to the PC pack -the intial impact is 57% better than average -BUT like all the other tests the settling rate was much worse (47%) -overall force was better by 44% which was crazy to see -this make sense, thick TPU bumper bounces a bit more, rigid back with lots of moving pieces does a good job of sluffing off the energy from the impact -now the reason why this case is so bulky? -corners are 4mm thick, back, at it's thickest is also 4mm thick -BUT despite having a really rigid PC back, the camera area is just TPU -so it flexes a lot, taking about 24N to bend it, which makes this case 16% floppier -UAG really dropped the ball on the MagSafe area -7.5N to pull things off, 6.4N to push -this case is 30% worse than the average case -buttons are integrated -BUT they are slightly oversized so they're easy to find and acesss -screen access is ok, the edges of the case are noteicable -port cutout is large -so fat cables work -the cutout also feels sharp -BUT the cutout is at an angle so feels better on my pinky
