The hospital in question is Vinayak Medicare, a private facility located in Thana Bijnaur, Lucknow, where a retired soldier named Suren Kumar from the municipal corporation's Army brigade was receiving treatment in the ICU. The hospital administration claims that the mayor and her colleagues tried to enter the ICU wearing shoes, which was not allowed. However, the hospital director, Mudrika Singh, contradicted these reports, stating that there was no argument between the mayor and the hospital staff. Singh emphasized that the mayor had visited the hospital, interacted with the doctors, and there was no altercation. Additionally, the government is contemplating the establishment of a new position called the Chief Investigation Officer of India (CIO), similar to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and the National Security Advisor (NSA). Under this proposal, the heads of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) would report to the CIO, much like the three armed services report to the CDS and the two intelligence agencies report to the NSA. The government's rationale for this move is to address the overlapping responsibilities of the ED and the CBI. While the ED primarily focuses on financial fraud cases, including money laundering and FEMA violations, the CBI handles corruption cases and other economic offenses. By appointing a CIO to oversee both agencies, the government aims to improve coordination and synergy between them.
