On day 0, we parked one vehicle at the Smokemont Campground trailhead parking just over the bridge as you enter the campground. Smokeys parking permit required. We stayed in Newport TN that night. On day 1, we drove to The Big Creek campground to leave a vehicle and begin our hike. Smokeys parking permit required. The campground was closed so we had to walk in 0.8 to get to the Northern terminus. The high point of the BMT is Mount Sterling, just 6.2 miles in with an elevation gain of 4134 ft.
