Sheet: soon After the school break last month, I traveled to western Sichuan with my classmates. This piano was inside the café at the summit of Dagu Glacier. I have to say, the vibe and footage here are absolutely stunning for photos and videos. Since many people were waiting in line to take pictures, I only recorded two simple pieces. One is the OST from Yosuga no Sora — Hatenaki Sora e (Toward the Distant Sky), featured in this video. The other was my part from the Frieren variation in my last upload, but I messed up the second half a little, so I won’t post that one haha. It was freezing at the top, my hands were really stiff, so I couldn’t play at my best. Please forgive any imperfections. I won’t re-record this at home — editing a MAD for this track would be really time-consuming. I didn’t expect there to be such a beautiful, photogenic piano on the mountain, so I’m sharing this precious live recording as a special memory. I originally played this just for fun and never planned to release it officially, so this is quite a special upload for me. I kept this arrangement simple — it’s probably one of my easiest pieces to play. Up until the final chorus, the difficulty is low enough that most people with basic piano skills could sight-read it directly. If you listen closely, you’ll notice I didn’t keep the original transition after the first chorus. For the harp part in the second verse, I didn’t strictly follow the original arrangement either. Perfecting that section to my standards would have taken a lot of work, so I just went with my memory of the melody: lowered the pitch from the first verse, used a calm, steady texture to build emotion, and paved the way for the climax in the second chorus. The Soundtrack in this anime really makes the whole experience. Every time I hear this song, I immediately picture the beginning and end of the first episode: the siblings sitting on a moving train, endless green fields outside the window, and rolling green mountains in the distance. Even though it’s only a few minutes long, this piece is full of emotion — fleeting joy, quiet warmth, and a subtle touch of sadness. It perfectly captures that “melancholic but not entirely sorrowful” feeling. Its open, distant tone lets your mind drift into the far sky, gently touching the softest part of your heart. That’s why in the second chorus, I used lots of flowing arpeggios — to make that spacious feeling even more lingering and atmospheric. That’s all for this video. Hope you enjoyed it, and see you next time!
