#CruiseShip #Trip #TransatlanticShip The Queen Mary was a transatlantic liner. She was launched from the John Brown shipyard in Glasgow on September 26, 1934. After her launch, it took eighteen months to outfit the liner and conduct sea trials. At the end of March 1936, the Queen Mary was officially delivered to her owners, and on May 27 of that year, she departed on her maiden voyage under the command of the company's commodore, Captain Edgar Britten. On board were 1,849 passengers, who were the first to enjoy the liner's luxury and splendor. The liner's electrical wiring required 4,000 miles (the distance from New York to San Francisco) and more than 30,000 light bulbs. The company's crowning glory was the main dining saloon, the size of a palace hall. The cabin and other rooms were finished with the finest woods, silk, and velvet, while the walls and ceiling were adorned with paintings, tapestries, and sculptural moldings. The interior was complemented by enormous mirrors and elegant walnut and mahogany furniture. The liner had a powerful power plant (seven turbogenerators, each producing 10,000 kilowatts), sufficient to power a small city. The ship was also equipped with the largest rudder in history, weighing 150 tons. The liner arrived in New York on June 1, 1936, having crossed the North Atlantic in four days at an average speed of 30.63 knots (56.72 km/h). Upon arrival in New York, each passenger was ceremoniously presented with a special personalized certificate, signed by the captain, certifying their participation in the Queen Mary's maiden transatlantic voyage. #CruiseLiner #Travel #TransatlanticLiner Queen Mary is a transatlantic liner.
