Seasons of Love

Music: Jonathan Larson Arrangement: Liz Garnett Audio and Video editing: Kate Shipway Founded in 2009, Cheshire A Cappella is one of the friendliest and most supportive group of women you could ever wish to meet! Our membership of 36 ranges in age from 30 to 82, women from all walks of life and with an immense variety of interests and skills. In normal times we meet every Wednesday in Wilmslow, Cheshire to have fun and share our great love of music. It’s a very friendly, relaxed, and welcoming group. Our musical director, Kate Shipway, joined us four years ago and we joined LABBS soon after. Convention in Llandudno was our first outing on the LABBS stage, but we have previously performed at many Sweet Adelines conventions. In 2018 we competed at SABS (such a fun weekend in the sun!) and travelled to Jersey in 2019 to give two concerts, one jointly with a local choir. We are first and foremost a barbershop chorus but under Kate’s fabulous direction we have extended our repertoire by experimenting with different genres and learning new songs, one of which is this beautiful arrangement of Seasons of Love. Our crowd-pleasing repertoire allows us to take part in local music festivals and shows, including our own fundraising events at Autumn or Christmas. Our talents also extend beyond singing! Several of our members play the ukulele so we include singalong numbers in our shows to get the audience involved. In these difficult times we’ve continued to meet weekly on Zoom, learning new songs and rehearsing our repertoire, but most importantly it’s an opportunity to see friendly faces and get our weekly fix of camaraderie and singing! Some of us keep in touch through a monthly book club and a small team also produces a monthly newsletter, with fun and informative articles and snippets contributed by our members. It’s all helping to keep us together as a close-knit group. We’ve dedicated Seasons of Love, arranged by Liz Garnett, to our dear friend Helen, who sadly passed away in 2018. We hope to raise funds for UK Sepsis Trust (sepsistrust.org) in her memory. Hopefully, one day soon we will be able to start rehearsing together again and we would be delighted to increase our numbers and meet new friends.
