Superman (2025) is officially here, and in this Superman movie review, I break down why James Gunn's reboot of the Man of Steel is such a huge swing for the DC Universe, and whether or not it sticks the landing. This film kicks off a new era of DC storytelling—and brings Superman back to his hopeful roots with a tone and heart that’s been missing from the genre. In this Superman (2025) review, I compare this film to Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, and talk about why Gunn’s approach—brighter, more comic-book inspired, and emotionally grounded—actually works better than expected. Where Man of Steel was mythic and operatic, James Gunn’s Superman is personal and sincere. It's not afraid to lean into earnestness, and that’s a big part of why this reboot feels so refreshing. David Corenswet steps into the cape and absolutely delivers. His Superman is noble, vulnerable, and quietly powerful—everything you want from the character. Rachel Brosnahan brings charisma and edge to Lois Lane, grounding the story with wit and presence. And Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor? He’s one of the best parts of the movie. Cold, calculating, and unhinged in the best way—this version of Luthor could go toe-to-toe with any villain in the genre right now. The music in Superman 2025 is incredible—it soars during emotional beats and adds gravitas to even the smallest scenes. The tone is just right too: it captures that classic Superman warmth while still feeling modern. But as much as I enjoyed the performances and overall vibe, the action scenes and special effects left me underwhelmed. A few sequences look rough, with some CGI that feels dated or unfinished. The third act in particular starts to wobble under the weight of too much spectacle and not enough polish. If you're wondering how Superman (2025) compares to past Superman movies, where it fits into the rebooted DCU, and whether James Gunn actually pulled it off, this review covers all of it. From the strong performances by Corenswet, Brosnahan, and Hoult, to the excellent score and tonal shift, to the missteps with the visuals—this is the full breakdown. Even with its flaws, this could be the best Superman movie in decades. Be sure to subscribe so you never miss any future videos!
