Sax-Zim Bog, located in northern Minnesota is famous for its birds. The vast area, exceeding 147,000 acres, is best-known for winter bird watching opportunities, especially for folks interested in braving subzero temperatures to see owls, finches, and other boreal forest specialists. However, Sax-Zim has year-round biodiversity across an incredibly diverse landscape! Participants will learn about the evolutionary adaptations of some of the boreal birds species in Sax-Zim, boreal ecosystems and the importance of winter, and will discover some of the awesome birds and critters that call this place home through the coldest winter weather and warmest summer sun. Clinton Dexter-Nienhaus is the Head Naturalist for Friends of Sax-Zim Bog. He is an environmental educator, with a master's degree in Environmental Education from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and a bachelor's degree in Environmental Biology from St. Mary's University in Winona, Minnesota.
