Black farmers and Farm Credit join forces in South Carolina. The National Black Growers Council (NBGC) advocates for Black farmers' interests locally and nationwide. They strive to attract, mentor and train the next generation of full-time Black row crop farmers. The NBGC hosts annual model farm field days where farmers come together to share insights and innovations. Topics include new production methods, precision agriculture, irrigation, seed trials and biotechnology. This year's final field day took place in South Carolina in September. It attracted about 200 to 300 individuals. Isaac Bennett, Farm Credit Bank of Texas chief credit officer and former NBGC advisory board member, hosted a pre-tour reception dinner at his home. "Farm Credit's collaboration with NBGC is an important step in empowering Black farmers as well as ensuring a strong future for agriculture," said Isaac. "Our recent gathering exemplifies our dedication to help foster leadership, provide essential resources and create strong networks within the Black farm community." Antron Williams, a first-generation farmer and owner of Mahogany Farms in Rowesville, hosted the field day tour. Farm Credit is proud to continue our partnership with NBGC as we cultivate an inclusive agricultural community for all.
