On May 14, 2024, Christopher Webster spoke on "Future Foraging: Curating Global Fashion in Santa Fe": Finding the common thread that ties together some of the world's most creative apparel design and bringing innovative vision home to one of the world's most creative cities. In this presentation, Christopher explored some of the most innovative designers and makers, from cutting-edge fabrications in Japan, to remote traditional craftspeople in rural Mexico, to avante-garde designers upcycling remnants and scraps from the finest textile mills. Christopher will unpacked the relationships between the evolution of global fashion and the diverse creative communities in Santa Fe. Christopher Webster is the founder and principal of W Department, Santa Fe’s newest fashion boutique, an offshoot of his family’s art gallery, Webster Collection, which has presented ancient and contemporary fine art to the Santa Fe community since 1972. A Santa Fe native, Christopher is a member of the Santa Fe arts community with memberships in Friends of Contemporary Art & Photography at the New Mexico Museum of Art, and the Foundation Council at SITE Santa Fe. He sits on the Board of Vital Spaces. W Department focuses on cutting-edge global fashion and unique and one-of-a-kind designs. It showcases heritage brands such as Issey Miyake and Margaret Howell, avant-garde designers like Rick Owens and Commes Des Garçons, up-and-coming, young designers such as Camiel Fortgens and Nicholas Daley, and brands focused on sustainability and preservation of traditional craft, like Carla Fernandez.
